Men's sweaters and sweatshirts: our winter edit

It all comes down to fibre and collar. Selected Homme's half-zip sweater in organic cotton works on its own or over a shirt; the crew neck in wool and cashmere warms without bulk; the roll neck in structured knit replaces a scarf; the workwear cardigan in wool serves as an indoor jacket. On the sweatshirt side, Selected Homme's crew-neck sweatshirt and Colorful Standard's oversized sweatshirt in organic cotton go for softness, as does KnowledgeCotton Apparel's Soufflé sweater. Les Deux, Gabba, Minimum and FAGUO round out the selection.

How to choose a men's sweater

  • Wool and cashmere: the warmest at equal weight; a thin T-shirt underneath means fewer washes.
  • Organic cotton: breathable, easy to care for, ideal at the office or under a jacket.
  • Half-zip or roll neck: the collar adjusts to the wind; the crew neck layers best.
  • Workwear cardigan: buttoned over a men's shirt, it stands in for a blazer.

Expect roughly fifty to a hundred euros for a sweatshirt or an organic-cotton sweater, more for wool and cashmere. A plain crew neck slips under our men's jackets or men's coats without bulk; the half-zip opens over a shirt, and trousers and shirts are in our men's ready-to-wear.
